Tutors Needed for the Global Institute of Learning

Interested in becoming a tutor in GIL’s high school completion program for refugees? If you enjoy working with people and have some time to give to GIL, then we want you! No tutoring experience is necessary. If you have a few hours a week, every other week, or even just once a month, we would love to have you tutor. Tutors have the flexibility to make their own schedule and will work under the guidance of the teachers. For more information on becoming a tutor, please contact Paula Frantz.

Women’s Connections for All Women of All Ages

Our next meeting will be Sunday, February 26 at 12:30 pm. The surprise speaker will be Elizabeth Nieusma, aka Biz. Some of us have known Biz since she was born and watched her grow up at PCO. She went off to Hope College and is now back at PCO as Director of Children and Youth Ministries. We can expect an inspiring and entertaining presentation from Biz. Please plan ahead to join us and to bring your friends. Lunch will be provided by Jane Bobay and Bobbi DuByne. No reservation required!

Shrove Tuesday, February 21

5:30 pm Pancake Supper

Come to the Fellowship Hall between 5:30 and 6:45 pm for delicious pancakes, hot off the griddle, with applesauce, trimmings and sausages. Biz Nieusma will help us prepare for Lent.

Ash Wednesday, February 22

7:00 pm Worship and Imposition of Ashes

Child care is provided.

Wednesday evenings, February 29–March 28

6:00 pm Supper

6:45 pm Study ending at 7:30 pm

Adult Classes

We will explore how Jesus has been portrayed in art, music, literature and culture and delve into questions about Jesus. Why Jesus Matters; Who was Jesus, really?; Is Jesus God?: what do people want from Jesus?; and Who is Jesus in our world?

Classes for Kids

Way of the Child, written by Wynn McGregor. Each lesson is broken down into different sections including activities, reflection, prayer, and reading. Nursery is available for the youngest children.

Church Directory Photo Makeup Day

The closets have been cleaned out, now it is time for everything to find a home. Please stop by the junior high room, Rm 107, in the education hall and go down memory lane. Old record players and records, curriculum, books, etc. and take anything home that you want. Huge assortment... but come early to get the best selection. All things not taken by Feb. 28th will be donated!

Cleaning Out Some Closets

The New Year leads to cleaning out, so a few of us are tackling the closets in the Youth Study Room (107) and Youth Fellowship Room (109), and in the Coat Room off Fellowship Hall. If you have stuff stored there that you want to keep, please label it “Keep,” date it “January 2012” and put your name or the committees name on it. Otherwise things in the closets and coat room will be thrown out or given away. If you want, you can also let Dorinda VanKempen or Biz Nieusma know your stuff is there. Please label by February 7; after that we will be cleaning out!

Annual Meeting of the Congregation

Session has called our congregation’s Annual Meeting for Sunday, February 5, in the sanctuary, following worship at approximately 11:15 am. All adult members of the congregation have a vote at the meeting and are encouraged to participate in the morning’s conversation. At the annual meeting, we will elect a Nominating Committee, we will vote on the Terms of Call for our Pastor, and we will review year-end reports from the Deacons and the Committees of the Session. Written reports will be available on Sunday, January 29.
